If you could go back and change careers, would you?
I’m one of those rare people who have always known what I wanted to be. I knew from the time I was a little girl that I wanted to be an artist. But when I went to college, I distinctly remember my dad saying something like, “but you can’t make money painting… so you need to turn this into a marketable career somehow”. So I chose to major in Commercial Art (or Graphic Design).
But if I could go back and redo things (or start over) I’d love to study Art History. I took art history classes in college, but I was only required to take one or two. Back then it was enough - I just wanted to create art… but today I’d LOVE to go back and learn ALL THE THINGS! I’d love to really learn about the different artistic movements and time periods of art.
This list isn’t exhaustive (it’s made up of the styles I thought of spur of the moment) and it’s TOTALLY not chronological…
Cubism
Neoclassical
Fauvism
Impressionism
I’m not showing a pic of Impressionism because I’ve covered Monet extensively here:
Baroque
Dada
Realism
Abstract Expressionism
Rococo
Romanticism
Art Deco
I’d also love to travel the world to see where famous artwork was conceived and painted.
I don’t know what I’d do with that other than read and research… But i would be a GREAT docent at the local art museum. Or I could maybe be a professor…
If I could go back and have a totally impractical DREAM career, I’d be Indiana Jones. Full STOP! I’ve always been OBSESSED with treasure hunting! In fact, a few years ago I attended a public archaeology dig at Old Cahawba here in Alabama and I felt like a kid in a candy store! It was hot and dirty and I had dirt under my fingernails for weeks… but I LOVED IT! It was my one brush with Dr. Jones!
Those 2 kind of go together though, don’t they? I could study art history and then go dig it up! Wait…
A plan is coming together…
I’d love to know (if you could do it all over again) what your DREAM career would be. So please drop me a comment and let me know… I’m always looking for new dreamy ideas.
