It's a FESTIVAL kind-of weekend!
So who’s ready for one of the country’s largest book festival? ME ME (hands in the air)!!! That’s right, the AJC Decatur Book Festival is THIS WEEKEND and I’m super excited to be going AND presenting!
The Decatur Book Festival started yesterday and runs all the way through Sunday night. The schedule of presenters is quite impressive this year. With names like Stacy Abrams, Phillipa Gregory, and Sonia Sotomayor, it’s sure to be a SUPER festival! Go check out the schedule here.
Downtown Decatur will be basically shut down for this event with stages and vendors out in the streets. I don’t have an actual map of the vendor tents to share, but you can download an overall festival map by clicking this link. Right in the center of the map where it says “AJC” - that’s close to where the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators tent will be (Tent #405). Keep that in mind as I tell you where I’ll be during the event.
If you’re planning on visiting and want to ride Marta, just take the BLUE LINE train to the Decatur Station (E-6) and you will come out right at the festival. If driving, use the below map to get you as close as possible (click on it to go to googlemaps).

Now for the fun stuff!
On Saturday at 12 noon I have a book talk at the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators tent #405 titled Color Your Quest - Deep South Explorations For Families. We’re going to talk about combining education with artistry on your next family road trip. Then at 2:30, I have a live sketch-up with children’s book illustrator Shanda McClosky at the same tent. We’re going to be drawing and autographing our books. Go check out more of Shanda’s work at https://www.shandamc.com/
Sunday afternoon at 5, I’ll be presenting on a panel at the Decatur Library with 2 other authors. The title of our panel/talk is Traveling The Fascinating South.
The rest of the time I’m going to sign books, walk around and meet authors and illustrators, look at books, and just thoroughly enjoy myself! I JUST found out that the Georgia Book And Paper Fair is happening in downtown Decatur too - at the Ebster Gym. Go check out the website here … I LOVE me some rare books and paper ephemera.
The best part of BOTH of these festivals… they’re FREE!
That’s right - spend your Labor Day weekend with some of your favorite authors (I can think of one in particular) in the heart of historic downtown Decatur, Georgia! If you plan on attending, please shoot me an email to let me know.
As always, follow along with me on Instagram for the latest-and-greatest!
