Changing The Way We Teach History... One Coloring Book At A Time!

Do you remember when you were little and you got a new pack of crayons before school started? Do you remember the smell of new school supplies? I really didn’t like school when I was little. I wanted to be drawing and coloring with those new school supplies - I couldn’t really care less about ACTUAL school (until I got older). I remember sitting there staring off in space and having trouble paying attention in class - silently praying that the teacher would have pity on me and we would either play “doggie doggie”, they would roll in the tv stand, I would get asked to go bang the erasers (which I could drag out through the end of ANY class period), or that we would get to work on a coloring/activity sheet instead of just listening to the teacher talk.

I don’t really remember much about my history classes. Math I remember (writing all the beautiful equations down was like an artform), Science books all had pretty pictures and illustrations to look at, and we got to read (ahhh… reading) and diagram sentences in English. But to me, history was all about memorizing dates and I wasn’t good at memorization. I made countless flashcards and got drilled (over and over AND OVER) by my Mom, but all that studying and memorization left my head as soon as I moved on to the next grade. I just don’t remember much until I got into high school and had a GREAT teacher who actually taught us how to take notes and how to remember what was important.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Yeah, thought so. Keep reading...

One way I’m trying to change that is through my Amazing States series of coloring books. Not only are they great for teachers to use in the classroom (I sell the books and also individual coloring pages as digital downloads), but they’re also a fun way to reinforce those history/geography lessons at home.

This book does an amazing job of gathering facts from around the state and putting them in one fun and interesting place! All of my kids love it, from 3 years old to teenagers! It’s been so fun!

All 3 of my books - Amazing Alabama, Amazing Georgia and the brand new Amazing South Carolina are loaded with drawings to color - of neat places to visit and fun facts about all the counties in each state. They would be awesome to use as a child’s travel journal! I know we haven’t been able to travel much in 2020 due to the pandemic - but what about picking a county in your state and going on a day-long road trip! You could color in each of the drawings as you crossed them off your list!

The Amazing States series would also be a fun gift for a friend or family member who doesn’t live in your state. Give the gift of home (your home) this year for Christmas!

But get your orders in SOON! To ensure your books arrive in time for Chrtistmas (if the USPS cooperates), I’m closing off all Christmas orders on December 18th. You can still order right up until Christmas if you live in the Auburn, AL area (choose “porch pickup” at checkout), but I won’t be going to the post office the week of Christmas (I’m trying to avoid the lines).  And just because you’re so awesome - right now I’m offering 25% off your entire order through December 24th if you use code 25OFF2020. This is the first time I’ve ever discounted my Amazing States books this much, so don’t miss out!

And don’t forget about all the other fun things to color I have in my shop. I have individual notecards for Hanukkah, Christmas and everyday, packs of cards for last minute holiday notes, and fun travel-sized journals that make GREAT stocking stuffers. These little notebooks have hundreds of uses… I’m currently using mine as a journal (trying to get better about writing things down as I think about them).
