Managing My Time?
I’ve written in the past about being easily distracted or making many many (many) to do lists or when all else fails - just showing up where you can. I’ve even told you how I was recommitting to writing in my blog every single week only to fall short on that promise. Anyway, this week isn’t going to be one of those posts.
YAY me!
This week I wanted to come on here to tell you about something new I’ve done for my business! I have started working with a time management coach for a (trial) month. Y’all, I don’t think it’s any secret that I’m a time-waster, but I’m about to get myself into a seriously sour (and funky smelling) pickle - In the next 6 months I am gonna be busier than I ever have been before! We’re talkin’ senior in college who’s pulling all-nighters because she’s trying to finish her final art projects, study for exams, AND get everything together for her final senior art show (complete with gallery talk and opening night reception) level busy (not that I’d know or anything… I NEVER procrastinated in college, Dad). Like BUSY! And it’s not just simple design projects either. It’s complete book designs (yes, PLURAL), a full 50+ page coloring book for one client, multiple maps for another client, multiple book covers for another client, and POSSIBLY another project that includes both a coloring book AND an illustrated children’s book. Y’all, this is good, but it’s A.LOT!
And I don’t want you to think I’m complaining b/c I’M NOT! I’m HAPPY to have it (especially after the 14 months of quarantine (really only 3 months, but it FELT like 14). It’s just that on top of all this, it’s time for school to start again. And this year, that means virtual school (for the first month at least) for our 9th grader, setting up a semi-permanent area for her to do school, moving our oldest into her college freshman dorm and all the stuff that goes with that, making sure she gets Covid-tested before moving in (which hasn’t happened yet - YIKES), worrying about the fact that her college is waffling around the decision of all classes being in person or virtual (I mean, they need to hurry up and make a decision!), making masks for EVERYONE, AND trying to spend as much time with the girls as possible before Abby starts college in a few weeks. All this on top of my workload… and managing our household. I’m exhausted just thinking about it!
Anyway, enter my new time management and simplicity coach! In just a few weeks she has helped me to get a better grip on the work I have and the time I have in which to accomplish my work. She’s taught me a little about time blocking, setting specific tasks on specific days, and batching my content and I’m looking forward to getting to the point where managing my time better (who am I kidding… managing my time AT ALL) is like second nature. I can already see how this coach is going to sprinkle me with pixie dust to help me get the same amount of work done (in less time) while still having enough time for all the other non-work stuff.
So… drumroll please… as you read this, I am moving my daughter into her dorm room. Yes, It’s happening TODAY, people. You know what that means? It meant I wrote this blog and scheduled it AHEAD OF TIME!
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!
Look at me doing what my time management coach told me to do.
